Job Description:

We are accepting applications for our Team Lead/Lead Paraprofessional Position at our Therapeutic Day School in Belvidere, IL.

Belvidere provides services for children, adolescents and young adults, ages 5 through 21 with Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotional Needs, other Health Impairments, Autism, and Intellectual Disabilities. A multi-disciplinary team develops IEP goals based on data collection through informal and formal assessment results. Treatment plans are completely individualized and incorporate research-based strategies and therapies.

The Team Leader/Lead Paraprofessional work collaboratively with the Paraprofessionals, Teaching Assistants, Special Education Teachers, School Therapist, Related Services and the School Resource Team in a therapeutic day school environment in an effort to help support the overall school program.

Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
Provides support and coaching to paraprofessionals under the direction of a the School Administrator
Acts as a substitute teacher or fills in for Teaching Assistants or Paraprofessionals as needed
Assists paraprofessionals (TA/Paras) with data collection on students and data analysis and reporting to teachers and school administrators
Supports with any facility needs
Provides notes and recommendations for paraprofessionals (TA/Paras) during classroom teaming meetings
Understands and demonstrates the principles of effective classroom management and supports students with special needs
Attends field trips and other community based instructional outings, as needed
Prepares for and attends IEP meetings with the classroom teacher, as needed

Experience and Skills:

Qualified Candidates Will Have:
  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in an education related field
  • Professional approval through Illinois School Board of Education
  • 3 years of experience working with at-risk youth or children with special needs
  • Experience working in a special education setting, alternative education or with similar population
  • Previous experience as a Team Leader, Unit Supervisor or similar position preferred
  • TCIS Trainer or willingness to become certified as a TCIS trainer
