The successful candidate will be expected to: Be responsible for establishing a bold new vision and new strategies which will take the athletic programs of the Pittsburgh Public Schools to a new level of achievement and prominence. The successful candidate will be expected to work with all stakeholders, including parent groups, within the Pittsburgh Public Schools to ensure that the district realizes its over-all objectives for the Interscholastic Athletics Program. Develop a strategic plan for the implementation of a world class athletic program. The Interscholastic Athletics Program strategic plan will include strategies to increase annually the amount of scholarship money and the number of scholarships awarded to district athletics. Plan a program of athletics and intramurals including short and long-term activities and immediate response functions that respond to local, state and federal regulations and local needs as identified by schools and community school councils.

Salary:
Support Administrators Salary Schedule - Level 3 (Starting at $95, 042)

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferably in health and physical education or athletic administration with a background in coaching.

Certificate of Athletic Directorship through the National Federation of Interscholastic Athletics is preferred.

Residency Requirements: City of Pittsburgh Residency Required

Essential Job Functions:
Assist the school in recruiting, hiring, supervising, training and evaluating a culturally diverse staff to implement a comprehensive athletic program.

Develop and implement a district-wide athletics program initiative. Assist schools in the purchase and maintenance of equipment.

Plan and conduct orientation meetings, staff development and clinics for coaches, faculty members and appropriate school staff.

Develop schedules, obtain officials and secure facilities for district and intra-district interscholastic athletic events.

Secure building permits for sports events.

Reschedule all contests and officials due to weather condition.

Purchase athletic supplies for all school athletics.

Send schedules for scholastic sports events to principals, faculty members, coaches, and news media.

Prepare and distribute athletic calendar twice a year to all principals, coaches, faculty members and news media.

Secure permits from Allegheny County for use of golf courses for interscholastic golf.

Order all medals, plaques, ribbons, certificates, letters and awards for students participating in interscholastic sports.

Conduct Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association rules interpretation meetings.

Send notices to member schools of district's meetings and athletic advisory council meetings.

Plan for City Football, Basketball and Baseball Championships, including all staffing needs, at both the high school and the middle school levels.

Purchase and distribute rule books to all coaches on all sports.

Secure doctors or paramedics for all events.

Process all requisitions for middle and secondary first aid requests for athletics.

Direct the work of 26 matrons who work in the school laundries.

Provide technical assistance to the school principals who select coaches for all sports for each school year.

Provide building permits to representatives of official's organizations for the purpose of administering examinations for prospective PIAA officials for all sports.
