POSITION TITLE: Spanish Communications Specialist &Translator
REPORTS TO: Communications Coordinator
LEVEL: Non-Exempt/12-month
SALARY: per Support Staff Contract

This position will assist the School and the Spanish-speaking community in all situations as needed, particularly, those situations that require Spanish language accommodations by providing translating and interpreting services for families in order to assist parents in being active participants in their children's education. The specialist increases parent and family involvement in schools by establishing effective communication between home and school with Spanish-speaking families. The School Spanish Communications Specialist & Translator will work with building translators/office aides to ensure accurate, meaningful, and timely communications with Spanish literate stakeholders. The specialist will serve as a verbal translator as well as in translating written documents, communiques, and information and formal messaging, signage, and advertising.

  • Associates degree or higherBiliteracy/bilingual (Spanish)Ability to proficiently and fluently speak, read, and write SpanishAbility to proficiently and fluently speak, read, and write EnglishAbility to work successfully with all students, families, and staff to assist Spanish-speaking stakeholdersInterest and desire to work with students, parents, staff, and the communityExperience with cross-cultural situations that would enable the person to relate optimally to the experiences of the students, families, and communityEducational background commensurate with that of the District students and familiesRegular, punctual attendance and responsiveness to needs within the DistrictAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding staff and student personal record informationAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding employee issues, concerns, and/or disciplinary proceduresAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding student issues, concerns, and/or disciplinary procedures.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Serves as phone support and first contact for Spanish speakers in the school officeProvides support with school and District initiatives as directed or requiredAnswers and retrieves messages left for School Offices by Spanish-speaking stakeholdersInterprets and translates for staff, parents, and stakeholders as neededTranslates and generates written documents, messages, and/or advertisingAssists certified staff and administrators with interpreting documents, verifying information, and working with Spanish-speaking stakeholdersAssists school staff for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information, interpreting technical information, and other services required by parents or teachers.Communicates with Spanish speakers on behalf of the school.Performs shcool record keeping and clerical functions to support Spanish-speaking stakeholdersProvides interpretive services in school meetingsProvides translating of school and school documents designed to inform parents. These include but are not limited to: school letters, announcements, notices, webpage information, articles, flyers, community resources, etc.Other duties as assigned
