Job Description
The New Bedford Public Schools is seeking a dynamic music teacher to join our team of elementary arts educators. This general music position is available at the elementary level and includes grades K-5 classroom music and chorus. Multiple opening are anticipated and some positions may include teaching beginning instrumental (band/strings) group lessons in addition to general music and choral responsibilities.
A qualified applicant will:
• hold Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as an Academic: Teacher, Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General, All Levels
• possess very strong vocal abilities, healthy singing technique and knowledge of beginning choral techniques
• have experience teaching elementary music education methods and designing engaging lessons, units and assessments that correlate to the MA Frameworks for Music
• be proficient on accompanying instruments such as piano and guitar
• have the ability to integrate other academic subjects to increase student understanding of arts and integrated subject matter
• have experience teaching beginning instrumental students
• have positive classroom management techniques, be responsive to student diversity, integrate the arts of various cultures and enjoy working in an urban setting
• have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, administrators and parents
