Classification Title: Academic Integration Consultant

General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, provides academic integration assistance in the area of math or ELA to Career and Technical Education instructors and students through obtaining technical skills. Reports to the Director of Career and Technical Education.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions :
Plans and organizes instruction in ways that maximize student learning to ensure students meet college and career readiness indicators.
Provides individual and group coaching sessions to keep students on track toward completion.
Utilizes and analyzes data, test scores, instructor input, and other avenues for early identification of at-risk students in order to increase credential and dual credit attainment.
Works closely with CTE students, faculty and administrators to meet identified needs by providing assistance in a wide range of areas including retention, dual credit qualification and attainment, credential and technical skill attainment, and overcoming academic challenges.
Facilitates academic integration with CTE curriculum through integrated programs (PLTW, SREB, Computer Science, and others).
Models academic integration lessons for CTE teachers to provide techniques and methods for academic integration within their content.
Assists teachers with techniques and methods for academic integration in educating special needs and special populations of students.
Monitors job outlook for students in career and technology education programs.
Develops, executes and monitors retention strategies for students in career and technical education programs.
Plans and conducts in-service professional and technical development programs for career and technical education, career specialists and academic educators.
Makes presentations and prepares exhibits for businesses, community and school groups.
Coordinates and manages special programs or projects as assigned. (i.e.: robotic competitions, student organizations, etc.)
Performs public and community relation activities, as necessary, to promote available career and technical education services and initiatives.
Performs related duties as required.
Additional Duties :
Performs general administrative and clerical tasks, including but not limited to, typing, copying and filing documents; answering the telephone; scheduling appointments; attending meetings; maintaining files and records; ordering supplies, etc.
Assists in interviewing and selecting new teachers.
Serves on committees and task forces, and attends conferences and workshops as appropriate.

Minimum Education and Training
Requires Master's degree in area of responsibility (Academic Content, Career and Technical Education, Special Education, Secondary Guidance) supplemented by three to five years of teaching and/or career/technical program development, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess valid teaching certification.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Physical Requirements :
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a computer, telephone, audio-visual equipment, vehicle, etc. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds.
Data Conception :
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communications :
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes guiding/teaching co-workers and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.
Language Ability :
Requires the ability to read a variety of curriculum standards, policies and procedures, technical and professional studies, reference books and publications, catalogs, handbooks, etc. Requires the ability to prepare curriculum plans, narrative and statistical reports, correspondence, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence :
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, schedule or diagrammatic form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in assisting classroom teachers, to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques, to make independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude :
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions, and to counsel and teach co-workers. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds and in a variety of technical and/or professional languages.
Numerical Aptitude :
Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to utilize mathematical formulas, to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of algebra and statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude :
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination :
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity :
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, medical equipment, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination :
Does not require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament :
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Physical Communications :
Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Performance Evaluation Criteria
Job Knowledge:
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Teaching and Learning as they pertain to the performance of duties of the CTE Academic Integration Consultant. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the department through effective leadership. Has considerable knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of Richland District One and other governmental agencies. Has the ability to offer guidance and assistance to teachers, co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Has thorough knowledge of instructional principles, practices and methods. Has knowledge of human growth and development, psychology of learning and curriculum development. Is able to work effectively with people from multi-ethnic and diverse cultural backgrounds. Is able to organize and coordinate the activities of groups toward meeting established goals and objectives. Has the ability to use independent judgment as needed in performing routine and non-routine tasks. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret professional and technical reports and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Knows how to prepare reports, correspondence, curriculum plans, etc. Has a comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Is able to make sound, educated decisions. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Knows how to make public presentations. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Has skills in the use of computers.

Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with all District departments and divisions, co-workers and the public.

Performs described "Specific Duties and Responsibilities" and related assignments efficiently and effectively in order to produce quantity of work which consistently meets standards and expectations of the District.

Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Attends required meetings, planning sessions and discussions on time. Implements work activity in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.

Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the District and various regulatory agencies. Sees that standards are not violated. Maintains a clean and orderly workplace.
