The Executive Senior Director leads all major activities associated with government relations and public affairs activities for selected State s. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, this high visibility role effectively represents K12's interests through developing and maintaining key relationships with contract lobbyists, State legislators and staff, executive and regulatory leaders and staff, other policy makers and administrators, business leaders and education interest groups.   • Studies proposed legislation to determine possible effects on the business in selected State s;
  • Confers with legislators and officials to emphasize supposed weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to the company's interests;
  • Contacts individuals and groups having similar interests in order to encourage them also to contact legislators and present views;
  • Prepares news releases and informational pamphlets and conducts news conferences in order to State the company's views and to inform public of features of proposed legislation considered desirable or undesirable;
  • Plans and coordinates meetings between members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow officials to respond to membership concerns;
  • Contacts regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings to enlist support;
  • Attends and represents local organizations at State and national association meetings

Requirements
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Management or related discipline AND
  • Twelve (12) years of successful leadership experience in planning, development, legislative affairs, and regulatory policy at the State level including extensive experience identifying and building relationships/working with key government leaders and committees affecting education legislation OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal) along with considerable tact and diplomacy to effectively address all levels
  • Exceptional personal and professional integrity
  • Strong people management skills and open leadership style with ability to effectively lead/manage multiple projects

  • Extremely organized, ability to prioritize, self-directed, process-oriented and hands-on with the ability to dig into the details when necessary
