Parents as Teachers Parent Educator Job Description

Position Summary: Certified parent educator will implement the PAT model which emphasizes parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum the parent educator will partner, facilitate and reflect with families.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or four-year degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology or a related field preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Ability to work with young teen parents
  • Computer skills, including web browsing, e-mail, Internet, and word-processing
  • Parent educator must complete the Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Trainings before delivering PAT services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being (includes planning, delivering, and documenting the visit)
  • Use the PAT Foundational Curriculum to share research based information with families
  • Complete an initial annual family-centered assessment with each family
  • Complete at least an initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child
  • Develop, monitor and review goals with each family
  • Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs
  • Help parents and children transition to preschool, kindergarten, or other services as needed
  • Engage in recruitment activities
  • Provide group connections to families, including teen groups
  • Maintain and submit in a timely way all required family and program documentation
  • Attend at least monthly staff meetings
  • Participate in 2 hours of reflective supervision monthly
  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew certification annually
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement

Additional requirements: Ability to conduct personal visits on the floor in a variety of home environments; will need reliable transportation.
