RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead an innovative and accomplished school library system comprised of thirty-two member school districts and a $1.6m annual operating budget with a focus on building capacity in school libraries.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the comprehensive vision of school library services
  • Collaborate to develop, implement and evaluate a professional development program for school librarians that includes an annual conference and blended learning opportunities
  • Develop, implement, teach and evaluate program resources for school libraries, including three school library BOCES CoSers (Cooperative Educational Services), to provide ongoing support in library automation, databases, e-books and media
  • Develop and administer the School Library System budget
  • Demonstrate leadership in educational technology innovation
  • Seek and administer grants from federal and state funding sources
  • Maintain an interlibrary loan program and an updated union catalog
  • Gather relevant data and complete the School Library System annual state report
  • Coordinate and oversee the School Library System Council and the Communications Coordinator Liaisons
  • Oversee the editorial management and production of the School Library System newsletter and an online educational technology research newsletter
  • Seek opportunities to increase the understanding of the essential role of the school librarian in teaching and learning
  • Provide guidance and support to districts in integrating the new National School Library Standards and the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold an ALA -accredited Master's Degree in Library Science and a New York State District-Level administration certification (or obtain within 3 years of hiring)
  • Five years successful experience as a school-based library media specialist
    Successful teaching of information literacy skills and collaborative inquiry-based curriculum
  • Experience teaching professional development and adult learners
  • Ability to effectively communicate, written and verbally
  • Knowledge of the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum
  • Essential attributes include: vision, creativity, leadership, energy and enthusiasm, collaborative and consensus-building skills, flexibility, strong inter-personal skills.

Minimum Salary of $125,000 dependent upon experience
