About Charlestown High School

Charlestown High School (CHS) is an open-enrollment high school in Boston that serves almost 900 students from across the city. Located in the historic neighborhood of Charlestown along the MBTA Orange Line, CHS is organized into five Small Learning Communities, each of which is designed for a specific population of students.

Job Description

The Family and Student Outreach Coordinator will play a critical role in improving student performance at Charlestown High School by ensuring our school maintains a positive learning environment and a culture of high expectations. The person in this role will also collaborate with school staff to support the implementation of strategies and programs designed to improve parent engagement and family outreach.

(S)he will develop a system for school staff to implement ways to engage families and create a sense of community.

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Designee

Responsibilities of the School Culture & Climate Manager include, but are not limited to:
  • Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns to increase school visibility
  • Plan and execute initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (social media, email, TV etc.)
  • Collaborate with school staff to coordinate brand awareness and marketing efforts
  • Develop and maintain school website
  • Create parent and student focus groups identify family needs
  • Develop customer satisfaction protocols for greeting parents and community partners in the building or over the phone and make the physical climate of school inviting.
  • Assist teachers/staff, families, and community partners to develop strong partnerships and enhance communication between key stakeholders.
  • Organize student recruitment fairs
  • Develop programs and activities designed to engage families and the community in order to improve student achievement.
  • Develop and maintain the school site council Follow the EVSC Strategic Plan on family/caregiver engagement and build the capacity of the school to engage families in a meaningful way.
  • Work with the school principal to communicate priorities and goals of the school, while engaging and developing parent and community leadership in the decision-making process.
  • Provide tools to school staff to develop, implement and evaluate parent and community involvement and community outreach activities.
  • Assist school personnel to develop skills in how to reach parents and community members and other agencies and organizations.
  • Serve as a resource to parents and community members regarding community agencies, events, and activities.


Qualifications--Required:

1. Education: Hold a Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience
2. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

3. Experience working in similar education settings

TERMS: Managerial Tier B

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
