Essential Functions and Objectives:

This position will perform mid to advanced level accounting functions specific to the District\u2019s financial operations with an emphasis on fixed asset accounting. This role includes budget to actual analysis on various projects within the District; has a good understanding of accounting for construction in process; and will perform regular reconciliations and ensure accurate recording of projects placed in service as capital assets. In addition, this role may deal with transactions pertaining to day-to-day activities for the District. An Accountant III will perform analysis and reconciliations of balance sheet and bank accounts for the District and ensure accurate recording of transactions being recorded by journal entry initiated by many sources. This position plays a role in the production of the CAFR and/or Single Audit.

- Continuous education and process improvements as it relates to accounting.

- Research and document recommendations on governmental accounting standards, new pronouncements and proposed accounting treatments, with an emphasis on GASB and generally accepting accounting principles.

- Participation in creation of CAFR and Single Audit for the District. Responsibilities include preparation of PBC items and footnote disclosures as they relate to capital accounting.

- Preparation of the fixed asset rollforward for the District\u2019s capital assets.
- Prepare analytics for capital related funds. This includes balance sheet reconciliations, income statement variance analysis and budget to actual review.
- Setup and closeout projects for construction and facilities project managers.
- Prepare a capital outlay reconciliation monthly.
- Prepare the statistical section of the CAFR.

- Collaboration with construction, facilities and operations management teams and customer service among departmental teams.

- Establish and maintain procedures for accounting for assigned funds and projects.

- Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- 3+ years of related experience.

- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.

- Ability to set goals, work independently and drive results.

- Demonstrated experience managing and completing multiple projects (full life-cycle project planning and implementation.

- Ability to communicate diplomatically, persuasively, effective oral, written and presentation skills.

- Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.

- Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail.

- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

- Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel.

- Experience in a governmental accounting setting (school district accounting preferred).

- Experience in CAFR and/or Single Audit.

Education Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
