POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading, directing, and coordinating the transactions of the accounting the accounts payable staff. The incumbent provides oversight and supervision of staff and their day-to-day work related to general, capital and grant funds accounting, as well as school activity funds. The director is responsible for maintaining adequate internal controls over account transactions and balances to ensure proper recording and reporting of activity in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The incumbent manages all accounts payable processing to assure data accuracy and integrity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Supervises and evaluates accounting and accounts payable staff
  • Directs the accounting functions, which includes intercompany accounting, balance sheet management and revenue reconciliations/recognition
  • Manages all accounts payable functions including customer vendor relations, check disbursements, 1099 and tax related matters
  • Manages maintenance of accounts payable system and related reconciliations of the balances and ensures accuracy and timeliness of payments
  • Reviews account reconciliations and other documents to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable and accounting functions, to ensure adherence to local, state and federal guidelines
  • Reviews policies and procedures to ensure that internal controls exist and are implemented for reasonable assurance that the District's assets are protected
  • Supervises month- and year-end close activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
  • Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines applicable to accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advance skills in Excel
  • Strong understanding of financial systems in an ERP
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
  • Ability to make recommendations on various topics whether detailed, controversial, complex or simple
  • Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate and provide leadership which results in the best environment
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information
  • Ability to manage financial, material, and human resources effectively
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written


Requirements: EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor?s degree in accounting, finance or business administration required
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance or business administration preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • CPA preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years of experience in accounting and/or finance required
  • 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience required
  • Experience in government or school accounting preferred


Compensation: SALARY GRADE: 137
SALARY RANGE: $93, 245 TO $127, 866
WORK DAYS: 252 (ANNUAL DUTY)
