Job Summary
The Cultural Enrichment Specialist organizes and implements culturally related programs, resources, and materials for the Title VI Indian Education program. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A bachelor's degree in education or a related field.Familiarity with culturally responsive standards.Superior written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.Excellent organizational skills.Ability to provide own transportation.

The following are preferred:
  1. Two or more years of experience in coordinating and implementing services for children or adults.Knowledge of research on culturally responsive practices and the relationship to academic achievement.Knowledge of educational, social, and cultural resources that support Title VII Indian Education students and their families.Working knowledge of technology and its functions within the workplace.Ability to perform outreach and coordination by working effectively with Anchorage School District staff and community members.Ability to organize data and create required reports for ASD and Title VII.Ability to work with Alaska Native/American Indian people and knowledge of native cultures.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Maintains knowledge and shares expertise of Alaska Natives and American Indians with the Cultural Responsiveness Curriculum Committee and staff.Coordinates, implements, and facilitates the Evening Program and After-Hours Cultural Academies during the school year.Assists with planning and implementing the cultural and language components for the spring and summer enrichment programs.Identifies, reviews, and selects cultural materials to enhance the Title VII Indian Education resource library.Organizes and implements culturally related programs and materials in conjunction with special observances and celebrations related to Alaska Natives and American Indians.Maintains and regularly updates the cultural enrichment section of the Title VII Indian Education website.Submits a quarterly report to the Title VII Indian Education supervisor and the Native Advisory Committee.Attends and presents at monthly Native Advisory Committee meetings.Participates in the development of culturally responsive education programs for staff and students.Collaborates with others to assist with the development of culturally relevant curriculum materials and specific lesson plans that integrate technology.Works cooperatively with families, businesses, and agencies to foster a supportive academic environment for all students.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
