Since 1989 New Visions for Public Schools has served as a laboratory of innovation within the city's public schools, ensuring students have access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the rigors of college and the workforce and driving significant achievement gains for tens of thousands of students. We pioneered the small high schools model creating ~150 new public high schools across NYC, produce free open-source curriculum used by thousands of teachers in New York State and across the country, and run a nationally-recognized Urban Teacher Residency program to train new teachers. The New Visions network currently supports more than 200,000 students enrolled in over 400 district and charter schools across the city. SUMMARY:

The Talent Acquisition Manager is the recruitment leader and ensures New Visions staff and schools are equipped with a diverse pipeline of high quality talent that furthers our mission. As a member of the HR team, this position reports to the Managing Director of Human Resources and will lead a dynamic, close-knit, high performing team of professionals in setting the vision, strategy and roadmap for designing an inclusive and thoughtful recruitment process that yields 200+ highly talented hires into the New Visions family annually.

The Talent Acquisition Team (TAT) provides best-in-class recruiting strategies, processes and practices that facilitate the hiring of top talent across our network of schools and our central office. We care deeply about the aspirations of candidates and hiring managers alike and create meaningful connections that ultimately improve student outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strategy and Management
  • Lead the Talent Acquisition Team (TAT) and New Visions network in sourcing a diverse, high quality candidate pool committed to the mission of the organization
  • Build capacity and serve as a coach and mentor in the development of the TAT to new and higher levels of performance, achievement and career development
  • Build and maintain a best-in-class recruitment experience for candidates
  • Create innovative and sustainable recruitment strategies with emphasis on hard to fill roles
  • Facilitate professional development for HR staff, central office hiring managers, school staffing liaisons, and hiring teams across NV network on best-in-class screening and interview practices
  • Serve as a key thought partner with the Communications team in building and managing New Visions branding and marketing strategy as it relates to the Talent Acquisition function
  • Research, cultivate and maintain key partnership relationships in support of sourcing strategies, including universities, workforce readiness programs and other CBO’s
  • Oversee internal and external recruitment events calendar, including selection, planning and logistics
  • Manage costs against recruitment budget, assessing and leveraging highest yield investments

School and Central Office Hiring
  • Manage to school-level staffing benchmarks and key milestones, including development of long-term plans, calendars, timelines, processes and systems to ensure successful, effective and timely hiring takes place
  • Ensure dashboard data is accurate and regularly report out to school and central office leaders on key insights into performance metrics with strategic, evidence based recommendations
  • Provide full-service recruiting support for Central Office vacancies at the manager level and above
  • Assume lead role in the hiring of school-based leadership positions
  • Directly support 10 New Visions Charter schools in meeting ambitious goals for the early hiring of high-quality teachers and ensuring all school vacancies are filled by the first day of school
  • Deliver diverse, high quality teacher candidate pool to New Visions 70+ Affinity Network schools through leveraging of technology, partnerships, attendance at recruitment events, hosting of events designed to attract potential candidates, and more

Primarily Interacts with: School Principals, staffing liaisons, hiring managers/teams, staffing agencies, and key partnerships. Represents New Visions to external audiences.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of two years managerial experience and five years of recruitment-related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in researching, cultivating and maintaining key partnerships that align to recruitment strategies
  • Education or non-profit industry experience and proven record of success in high volume recruitment and campus recruiting preferred
  • Experience leading recruitment efforts that support diversity, equity and inclusion

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and implement a Talent Acquisition strategy and action plan to produce measurable results, with deep knowledge of recruitment best practices and relevant laws
  • Highly organized systems-thinker with a strong emphasis on structures and routines that leverage data for evidence based decision making
  • Continuous learner that is passionate about growth for self and others towards achieving higher levels of performance in support of the organization’s mission
  • Emotionally intelligent and self-aware individual with demonstrated ability in active listening skills, coaching, mentoring, and leading others and self in times of stress
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing workforce planning strategies in a multi-site environment, with strong attention to detail and the ability to ensure the integrity of information and workflow processes and that targets and deadlines are consistently met and with high fidelity
  • A strong supervisor adept at creating the conditions for teams to thrive
  • Problem-solver that can think strategically, identify challenges, and generate solutions while recognizing the importance of creating the space to bring people along to achieve more together
  • Willingness to roll up their sleeves when needed to help the team succeed
  • Ability to cultivate and build relationships with candidates and staff at all levels of an organization and to consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and tight deadlines; able to balance competing priorities for what is realistic
  • Excellent event planning skills, organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of technology and database systems, including a strong working knowledge of ATS/HRIS, Google Office Suite
  • A willingness to work non-standard hours and/or occasional weekends, especially during peak hiring season (March-August)
