  •    Assistant General Counsel

    The Cincinnati Public Schools invites applications for the position of Assistant General Counsel.
    This position reports to the General Counsel.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: J.D. from ABA-accredited institution and membership in good standing
    in Ohio bar.

    Experience: Three (3) years practicing law involving the public sector with some experience in school law, administrative law, litigation, labor-management relations, employment law, public records / open meetings laws, property law, and contract law. The position will assist in the development of Board policies. The position will assist the General Counsel in ensuring compliance with all laws applicable to the operation of a school district.

    SPECIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
    • Demonstrated experience performing complex legal work, with an emphasis on schools or other governmental agencies, corporate, or administrative law including contracts, property, labor, and litigation.
    • Knowledge of labor-management relations and employment law.
    • Excellent writing skills and verbal communication skills. Litigation experience preferred.
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including ability to work with individuals in all aspects of the organization and external parties.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, decentralized environment.
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides legal assistance in drafting legal documents, rules and regulations,resolutions, applications, and other legal or quasi-legal documents.
    • Plans with, organizes and assists the General Counsel in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other administrative hearings and appeals.
    • Labor-management relations including negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, interpretation, and arbitration of disputes.
    • Investigation and fact-finding.
    • Maintains a positive working relationship with the Board, administration and schools.
    • Helps keep clients aware of current best practices, changes to laws, and other current legal issues affecting the school district.
    • Participates in contract negotiation, drafting, and dispute resolution with vendors, service providers, and other contract partners of the district.
    • Aids and Consults in the formulation of Board policy and administrative procedures.
    • Assists with communication to the public.
    • Supervises legal Interns in the Office of General Counsel
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    EMPLOYMENT PROVISIONS
    • Type of Contract: 261 - day limited
    • Salary Range: Based on applicable experience
