    PARENT AIDE (B) for Fathers
    UNION: NAGE CLASS CODE: G143
    Salary: $40,689

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
    Experienced Parent Aide who works directly with fathers and primary father figures enrolled in the program. Visits fathers and primary father figures once a week to provide pertinent information; and use highly regarded curricula (will be identified by employer) to engage fathers and primary father figures in prenatal and postnatal bonding, improve parenting skills, child development, and increase father involvement. The Parent Aide will also provide group services to the fathers.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Acts under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Maintains adequate case-load of families and scheduled weekly home visits per program and agency guidelines.
    • Does home visits to assigned families who have been identified as needing services, including but not limited to parenting and child development education, advocacy and support, and assistance with obtaining community resources.
    • Utilizes recognized curricula to improve parenting skills and increase parents understanding of normal child growth and development
    • Assists and models for the parents in how to seek and obtain outside resources
    • Maintains collaborative relationships with other services and providers
    • Actively participates in weekly supervision and scheduled case conferences
    • Immediately notifies supervisory staff of situations in which children may be a risk or in danger
    • Maintains accurate records of all client and contacts including service hours, number of home and office visits, contact with collateral agencies per program requirements
    • Completes all required client contact, home visit documentation and all additional required paperwork per agency and program standards and requirements
    • Maintains confidentiality of client information and records at all times
    • Attends and actively participates in agency, unit or program meetings and functions
    • Promotes agency's services, programs, image and philosophy
    • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
    • Develops strength-based service plans with fathers to address areas identified as challenges, maintain collaborative relationship with the mother of child and primary care providers.
    • Educate fathers on their parental rights and responsibilities including custody and visitation rights. Home visitors will coordinate "family nurturing time outings" for fathers.
    • Help fathers access services from community resources including services that will foster healthy relationships between parents, encourage shared parenting, and connect fathers with programs that assist with job training/readiness, employment, education, health care access, and other identified needs.
    • Maintain current knowledge about both community services particularly those focused on parental involvement and the experiences the fathers and primary father figures face.
    • Schedule some visits to father's home (if applicable), and whenever possible child should be included in the visit. However, it is not necessary to have child present during visit.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA) or related field; or High School Diploma with training as a Parent Educator with a minimum of two years experience.
    • Prior experience working with fathers, families and children; familiarity with community and community/social resources; knowledge of child development; knowledge of signs of child neglect and abuse.
    • Knowledge of DCF mandated reporting statutes
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent working and community relationships
    • Ability and willingness to work with families of all races and socio-economic backgrounds with cultural competence and sensitivity.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must have valid CT driver's license
    • Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive to home visits and to attend collaborative meetings and required trainings
    • Proof of adequate automobile liability insurance
    • May have to use own vehicle for work purposes
    • Must be able to work with clients in a variety of settings and make home visits
    • May require evening and week-end hours to meet the needs of the clients
    • After-hours availability for client emergencies
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle varied duties and responsibilities
    • Demonstrated ability to be creative, innovative and resourceful
    • Able to "model" parent - child interaction with men and children
    • Basic computer skills including Word, Excel. Microsoft Office
    • An understanding of group dynamics and adult learning styles
    • Bilingual Spanish Preferred
