Coordinator - Curriculum

General Description

Provides direct assistance to the Director of Curriculum Development and Support to develop a system of curriculum, assessment and instructional management. This work includes developing curriculum that supports disciplinary and transdisciplinary impacts, is flexible to be responsive to students needs and inclusive of the whole child, utilizes technology to leverage instructional opportunities, has the ability to personalize learning and promote student agency. Provides leadership to Curriculum Specialists in developing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring and revising K-12 curriculum, instruction and assessment aligned with school district's strategic plan.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages the daily operations of the Curriculum Office including providing administrative assistance for department wide and division wide activities.
  • Collaborates with other departments/offices to support the development of authentic connections working toward the common goals and objects of the school district's strategic plan and integrates Virginia Standards of Learning, national standards and international standards aligned with the division's strategic plan.
  • Assists in the preparation of bids and RFPs for Curriculum Office resources.
  • Analyzes academic performance of students and schools in core content areas and correlates day-to-day decision-making of curriculum and instruction to support optimum academic achievement for all students.
  • Establishes effective district processes for the analysis and selection of instructional materials, including digital materials and assessments; develops and continually improves processes, guidelines and procedures for adoption of new resources and/or digital content.
  • Uses data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; monitors and assesses student, teacher, school, and system performance. Disaggregates data to provide ongoing assessment of student achievement to meet local, state and federal expectations. Recommends and implements improvements to curriculum, instruction and assessment based on analysis of results.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Supports the planning of the written curriculum, the delivery of high quality instruction, and the assessment of student learning with a systems approach to establish structures to support the teaching corp.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge: of the principles, concepts and methodologies of curriculum and instruction; of digital content and open source resources and digital assessments; of Virginia Standards of Learning; of research-based instructional strategies and implementation and state and federal law. Considerable knowledge: of best practices in instructional technology, gifted education and exceptional education of the budget process, fiscal management and the securing of special funding sources for various curriculum areas. Demonstrated skill in utilizing technology to support job functions including proficient use of Word, Power Point, Excel, Access and Google Apps for Educators preferred. Demonstrated ability: to apply best practices in instructional technology, gifted education and exceptional education; to plan, organize and direct complex organizational components related to curriculum and instruction; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to direct and evaluate administrative and professional staff; in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, curriculum management, research and planning, long range planning and forecasting.

Requirements

Must hold a Post Graduate Professional Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision. Prior teaching experience, curriculum development; knowledge of digital content and assessment resources is required. Experience in instructional supervision or building or central office leadership preferred.
