INTERNAL AUDITOR

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Chief Auditor provides performance, financial, and compliance audits; and consulting services to schools and departments within the District.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyzes financial records and operations of schools and departments to determine reliability and accuracy; analyzes and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the function's operations and internal control environment; determines if district financial records and operations are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures; develops and/or modifies internal audit programs; writes audit reports that include recommendations and agreed-upon corrective action for any unsatisfactory conditions, improvements to operations and/or reductions in costs; reviews audit recommendations with administrators of audited area; follows up on audit recommendations to determine status of implementation;presents reports to teh Audit Committe and performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience : Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, public administration, education, or other fields;

  • AND
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible auditing experience.

  • Knowledge of : Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (yellow book) and Institute of Internal Auditors Standards (red book); audit techniques (i.e., work paper preparation and organization and system documentation); generally accepted accounting principles, computer software applications; spreadsheet applications.

    Skill at : Analyzing and resolving problem situations; performing complex mathematical and statistical analyses; providing attention to detail; developing and organizing work procedures; researching, analyzing and evaluating facts and preparing technical reports; interacting effectively with a wide variety of professional and non-professional personnel in a variety of departments within the District; communicating clearly and concisely both in written and spoken form; working independently, exercising judgment and maintaining confidentiality.

    Licenses/Certificates : Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District; certification as a CPA, CIA, or CFE is preferred but not required.

    Annual salary: $63, 905 (entry step)

    Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by the Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

    The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

    New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

    Please be advised there is a 90-day waiting period for insurance benefits. Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
