The Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting occupational therapy programs to facilitate development and rehabilitation of mentally, physically, or emotionally challenged students. The Occupational Therapist is often required to travel between two or more work sites during a single work day.

Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park and White Center Heights in Washington State. Identification, Evaluation, and Planning: - Evaluates student occupational profile, the classroom/school environment, and sensory and motor performance deficits that interfere with student development, learning, and access to education. The occupational therapist utilizes a variety of standardized, functional, and behavioral assessments; skilled clinical observations; histories; and interviews. - Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and identifies need for occupational therapy services - Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, and develop recommendations

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Planning, Service Delivery: - Develops and implements occupational therapy intervention plans that include a variety of service delivery models: direct service, collaboration or shared goals/objectives with classroom staff, and consultation/problems solving. - Coordinates services with the IEP team, including parent - Adapts and modifies the environment including assistive technology and training - Supervises certified occupational therapy assistant in the implementation of occupational therapy services - In-service to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to embed intervention techniques in the classroom and support generalization of student skills. Other Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.


Bachelor's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program Current Washington State ESA certificate - Occupational Therapist Washington State Occupational Therapy License

Master's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program

The teacher will be evaluated by the principal or special education administrator based on performance of duties and responsibilities.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will frequently stand/walk, squat, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, kneel, reach overhead, crawl, knee stand, climb stairs and lift& carry. The employee is required to constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs and frequently will lift/carry a maximum up to 20 lbs. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 57 lbs. This position requires pushing or pulling a maximum force of 30 lbs. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
