Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Position:

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student in every neighborhood is engaged in a rigorous, well-rounded instructional program and graduates prepared for success in college, career and life. Today, Chicago's public schools are considered by many to be a model for successful urban reform. The Department of Magnet, Gifted and International Baccalaureate (MGIB) seeks to ensure that all of Chicago's children and their families have access to quality educational options that meet their diverse educational needs and interests and accelerate them toward their postsecondary goals.

The MGIB School Support Specialist will report to the Executive Director of MGIB and will be a critical team member for supporting the implementation of new and existing programs throughout CPS.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide day to day technical support and coaching to new and existing Magnet, Gifted, and IB schools and

programs

• Plan yearly district level professional development and learning communities for teachers, coordinators,

principals and Network support staff

• Provide consultation to Network Chiefs and staff on program standards and practices

• Develop and manage annual budget for new and existing programs

• Provide as needed program expertise for elected officials and media

• Support Principals in interviewing staff when applicable

• Develop relationships with external partners to foster program development within the schools

• Assist with documenting start-up, incubation, and on-going implementation activities

• Assist in preparation of various reports, projects, and presentations

• Assist in developing program branding materials

• Maintain files, supportive documentation, and data in an organized manner; collect and analyze student level

data and prepare reports as requested

• Develop communications for MGIB schools as needed

• Performs related duties as required including additional duties as assigned by MGIB Executive Director

Qualifications for Job:

Skills:

1. Demonstrates effective experience as an instructional leader or equivalent educational leadership role that involved implementing successful strategies that improved outcomes for students.

2. Demonstrates a sense of urgency around equity and access to close achievement gaps and to improve instructional outcomes; can advocate for policy changes.

3. Is a strong communicator; possesses excellent technology, speaking, listening and writing skills.

4. Understands how to use multiple sources of data to inform daily decisions to improve instructional practice and instill this practice in others.

5. Demonstrates effective collaboration skills

6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to conduct multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.

7. Possesses a track record of success as demonstrated by superior academic and professional achievement.

Experience:

• Required: Five or more years teaching in a CPS school or education-related field.

• Preferred: Experience teaching or coordinating Magnet, Gifted and/or IB Programs

Type of Education Required:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree required.

Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district
