Job Description

Reporting to the Equity Policy Strategist, the Equity Policy Intern will support the work of establishing systems to conduct policy analysis reviews of existing school board policy, the Illinois School Code, city and state policies/practices, and district and school-based practices. The role will involve supporting the development of literature reviews, resource guides, stakeholder maps, and impact assessments focused on equity. This role will support in designing policy and practices that give considerable attention to least-served and underrepresented students while adhering to federal, local, and state regulations.

The Equity Policy Intern is responsible for supporting in the following ways:

  • Surveying and synthesizing research related to education policy audits and racial impact assessments in large urban school districts
  • Write research briefs on board policies or other state and local policies or laws in order to identify equity implications
  • Set up and engage in stakeholder listening campaigns in order to gather specific voices
  • Collect and analyze data, which can support school-and district policy audits
  • Perform additional ad hoc duties as assigned


Type Of Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in Law, Public Policy, Risk Management, Audit or Business preferred
  • Current graduate students in Masters in Public Policy, Policy Analysis, Public Administration, Business Administration are encouraged to apply


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Ability to collect and analyze data and make recommendations with equity at the center
  • Ability to write detailed technical briefs, summaries, data-driven reports, and counter-narratives
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as to function effectively in a collaborative team environment
