We are currently looking for an Assistant Director, to serve as an integral part of The Baby College core management team and is responsible for providing vision, support, and direction to over 15 full-time staff as well as about 25 part-time staff. The Assistant Director will supervise the team to ensure best practices are coordinated seamlessly through the Outreach, Family Worker and Childcare Teams. The Assistant Director will report to the Program Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision, training and guidance to the department heads of the Family Service and Outreach team
  • Ensure a strong culture of accountability, standards, and best practices in all areas of program
  • Consistently and creatively think about how to develop the program; Ensure performance goals are met
  • Represent the organization to the public, key stakeholders and business partner
  • Assess whether families will benefit from the program, and develop and implement plans to meet their needs and make referrals as appropriate
  • Acquire knowledge of various community-based and governmental resources and refer families to and advocate for the acquisition of such resources on behalf of children and their families
  • Work closely with Family Services Coordinator to provide services to families in crisis
  • Manage Outreach team in the collection and reporting of data, such as surveys and other information to ensure accurate and targeted outreach for ongoing cycles
  • Address various recruiting and retention concerns, including coaching the outreach team while ensuring compliance with enrollment policies, procedures and defined internal controls.
  • Ensure accountability and maintain departmental standards and objectives by working closely with program director
  • Oversee the timely and accurate completion and submission of all required documentation
  • Fulfill duties delegated by Program Director; attend and preside over meetings; help track expenditures
  • Establish and maintain systems for monitoring frontline managers for staff performance and progress in achieving organizational and program goals
  • Coordinate and oversee monthly program-wide staff development opportunities and special events
  • Foster strong relationships and effective communication with presenters, parents, staff, and HCZ leadership
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with HCZ colleagues, and serve a liaison to external community organizations, schools, parents and other stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ; Genuine compassion for families with the ability to build trust is a must
  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline of business management or in early childhood education; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience in a social service setting
  • Superior organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have Early Childhood Education, and youth development experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook; Familiarity with ETO Enterprise data system a plus
  • Familiarity with the Harlem community and locations to connect with parents
  • Ability to lead and motivate a high-performing, mission-driven staff

  • Serve as a role model, consistently demonstrating HCZ's core values
  • Familiar with issues prevalent in under-served communities of color
  • Must be available to work Tuesday - Saturday, between 11:00 - 7:00 pm; ability to work flexible hours
