Enterprise Architecture Engineer
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third largest school district in the United States, serving over 360,000 students in more than 600 schools and employing nearly 36,000 people, most of them teachers. The Enterprise Architecture Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting the ITS Enterprise Architecture Methodology, Systems and Tools. This includes the creation and maintenance of architectural artifacts (for example service/process definitions, definitions of principals, architectural models, governance systems, etc). The Enterprise Architecture Engineer will work directly with technical, business and educational staff to understand the current state, understand the desired future state and communicate the value and utility of the Enterprise Architecture Methodology, Systems and Tools to all stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities
The Enterprise Architecture Engineer must provide a variety of services to appropriately position the CPS IT organization in support of emerging educational and operational needs.
The following list provides an overview of required services to ensure operational stability, general ease of use and technology platforms that are cost effective and extensible:
Support long-term strategic planning for all CPS IT system tiers (personal, transactional, analytic)
Assess and communicate the impacts, trade-offs, risks, costs, benefits and opportunities of IT solutions
Support the alignment and/or streamlining of business processes, IT and business strategy
Support the development and implementation of a strategy for reducing the complexity of information systems in a cost effective manner, for example by decreasing the number of applications or moving away from legacy systems
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with translating business requirements into IT
specifications (strategy, platform selection, reference architecture design)
Experience in defining an enterprise architecture strategy and process that helps align IT projects with business requirements
Running events, such as alignment, roadmapping, brainstorming or idea sessions
Developing and implementing an enterprise architecture (EA) governance
Developing and implementing data architecture
Business Analysis, utilizing best practices for requirements management; such as gap analysis, modeling, or traceability matrices
Must have good interpersonal, leadership, collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills and be able to manage conflict.
Must have excellent communication skills, and be able to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people can understand as well as be able to explain customer needs and priorities in a way that technical people can understand.
Must be intrinsically motivated by a burning intellectual curiosity
Must be dedicated to improving the lives of Students, Parents, Teachers and Principals through the judicious use of Information Technology
Must be process oriented
Educational Requirements
Minimum Education :
Bachelor degree or higher qualification in Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics, Data Science.
Relevant Certifications:
Certification in one or more of the following methodologies and frameworks: TOGAF, Zachman, ITIL, or Archimate.
Experience: 1-3 years of working experience within Information Technology Management
Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district
