Job Description
JOB GOAL: Provide direct, specialized instruction and consultative services, using an Itinerant based model, as they apply to developmental and compensatory skills, for students who are blind, visually impaired including those with additional disabilities (ages birth -22). Teach and/or modify content based on appropriate curriculum. Serve as a resource for training and consultation to schools, families, agencies and community as it relates to students. Applicants should have expertise in IEP development, the assessment and evaluation of students with vision impairments, with a focus on monitoring student progress, and act as an integral collaborative member of an educational team. Applicants should be willing to travel and be flexible in scheduling.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments and consultation services to special education teachers.

2. Perform assessment of functional vision and develop the use of remaining vision, tactile skill development and auditory skill development for NBPS students.

3. Consult with teachers and support staff to provide recommendations for adaptations and accommodations for the classroom setting.

4. Attend IEP and service delivery team meetings, prepare evaluations, IEP, and progress reports for all students on caseload.

5. Provide in-service training to staff about the implications of vision loss as necessary.

6. Supports student enrollment in agencies such as the Massachusetts Resource Library, American Printing House for the Blind and Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, New England Center Deaf Blind Project, etc.

7. Supports the mission of the NBPS as a transdisciplinary team member.

8. Preparation of lessons and materials for each individual student as well as collaboration around lesson planning for students within the general education setting.

9. Maintaining professional credentials and paperwork associated with licensure/certification, evaluation and billing.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
2. Certification as teacher of the visually impaired.
3. One or more years of teaching experience working with students with visual impairments preferred. Knowledge of multiple disabilities, including vision impairment, blindness, or deaf/blindness preferred.
