Job Description:

We are currently accepting applications for our Special Education Director position at our Therapeutic Day School located in Philadelphia, PA.

This campus partners with the School District of Philadelphia to service students with exceptional needs in grades 6-12.

The Special Education Director is responsible for implementing and maintaining the special education programs and services in conformance to District, State and Federal regulations and Camelot's objectives. This position will serve as a resource to parents, school personnel and local district and assist in maintaining adequate staffing to ensure objectives of the programs and services are achieved.

Will be enthusiastic about staying involved in the Special Education community/staying up to date on research
Will have the ability to develop, implement, and provide feedback on new programs, projects, or ideas
Will be a self-starter who looks for innovative ways to support staff and students



Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Direct the development, selection, evaluation and implementation of special educational programs and educational materials
Provide direction and leadership in the assessment and identification of the curriculum goals and objectives, while establishing a strategy to address specific academic needs of the students
On-going evaluation and refinement of methods of instruction in accordance with the educational goals and objectives of Camelot
Prepare documentation and report data to Camelot's quality management team, the school district that the state Department of Education
Provide supervision and assistance to special education staff members
Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff
Evaluate special education teacher performance
Facilities I.E.P meetings and processes

Experience and Skills:

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Special Education or related field
  • Instructional Certification in Cognitive, Behavior, Physical/heath Disabilities in Pennsylvania
  • Knowledge in curriculum and understanding of district, state and federal educational guidelines
  • Experience working in a Therapeutic Day School preferred
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a school setting preferred
  • Proven ability and working knowledge with Microsoft office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
