MTSS is designed so that schools can provide the appropriate level of instruction and intervention for their students. Using performance data and monitoring, learning rates through MTSS, educators can make important instructional decisions to meet the needs of students from different backgrounds, learning styles, and levels of attainment.

The Multi- Tiered System of Supports High School Specialist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Support School Leaders in driving the district implementation of MTSS to ensure that every school has the framework and resources to provide high quality core instruction and the academic and social emotional interventions needed to successfully meet ALL students' needs

  • Meet with and support school leaders in the implementation of the MTSS framework so that it supports the vision, mission, and goals of school improvement in teacher practice and student achievement

  • Monitor fidelity of implementation of MTSS among a portfolio of district designated Tier 2 or Tier 3 schools and school structures (i.e. ILT, Academic Departments, MTSS teams)

  • Establish coaching rhythms to ensure the regular use of data and the Problem Solving Process (PSP) to make data-based decisions aligned to school-wide Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) goals

  • Increase the capacity of school teams to use the MTSS framework (i.e.-the Problem Solving Process) in making data-based decisions about instructional core and tiered content to accelerate and maximize student academic outcomes

  • Design and provide training, consultation and support to school leaders, teacher leaders and school-based teams to facilitate implementation of MTSS including modeling and data analysis

  • Ensure that school level initiatives and strategies are in alignment with district MTSS Framework and best practices

  • Conduct school site visits to capture best practices and elicit feedback and recommendations from Central Office and school-based staff

  • Establish, monitor and ensure the fidelity of a district recommended list of high quality content specific interventions and resources that are aligned to district student academic outcomes

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, school-based instructional teams, school leaders, and external



professional development providers to design and execute a school-based vision and implementation plan

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the MTSS High School Specialist must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

  • Undergraduate degree in education, youth development, counseling, social work, or a related field

  • Master's degree in educational leadership strongly preferred



Type of Experience and Number of Years :

  • Two years of high school leadership experience (e.g. Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), Department Chair, etc.)

  • Recent teaching and/or instructional coaching experience in a high school

  • Experience with developing, monitoring, and evaluating cycles of continuous improvement

  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development sessions for school leaders and staff

  • Experience planning, leading and executing initiatives with adult learners

  • Demonstrated success and experience with and/or knowledge of best practices for supporting English Language Learners

  • Demonstrated success and experience with and/or knowledge of best practices for supporting Diverse Learners (Special Ed)

  • Five years of professional experience in education, school psychology or related field

  • A minimum of three years of experience driving complex projects requiring significant cross-functional collaboration in a large organization is preferred



Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
