KIPP New Jersey is looking for a Payroll Accountant to help support the Human Resources  department with processing semi - monthly, multi - state payroll for over 900 employees. The Payroll  Accountant will work with the Human Resources Manager and other Human Resources staff to  coordinate and perform the key duties associated with the organization's payroll processing. The  Payroll Accountant will play a critical role in compiling, recording, and processing payroll data,  including but not limited to computing employee time, posting wages and deductions and  preparing pay checks.

Here's what you'll be doing as the Payroll Accountant:
The Payroll Accountant must be incredibly detail oriented in review and processing, as well as able  to step back and synthesize trends and patterns on a high - level in order to identify improvements  and best practices. Our ideal Payroll Accountant will love reconciliation work and demonstrating
that their work is correct - ensuring that all stakeholders (staff, directors, and auditors) are about  to clearly understand payroll calculations. Responsibilities:
  • Compile payroll data such as bonuses and stipends, garnishments, employee deductions, and   overtime pay.
  • Calculate and confirm correct computations of hourly timesheets, reviewing them for   completeness and accuracy.
  • Process semi - monthly payroll data and transfer of data to external payroll vendor including   reconciliation of retirement contributions, loan contributions, and other withholdings.
  • Compile data and process reports from payroll system software through fluctuation analysis
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Manager along with the appropriate accounting team   members to ensure accuracy of cost centers, allocation coding, and locations for budget   accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive and detailed checklist for all payroll related functions   and updated with progress of completion of each step during payroll submission.
  • Troubleshoot with external payroll vendor and human resources manager as needed.
  • Work closely with the human resources team to assure accuracy of employee's records   and deductions including benefits, 403(b), pension and other deductions.
  • Process and confirm employee data changes in HRIS.
Must Haves
  • 2 - 3 years of experience processing payroll for companies operating in multiple states with   over 250 employees.
  • Accurate, attentive, detail oriented, with strong analytical skills
  • Effective research skills on all matters payroll and labor law related, including but not limited  to researching online, through HRIS provided resources, and local, state, and federal law   updates.
  • Professional and customer - service oriented with the ability to interface with associates and management.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload in order to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Previous experience working with corporate payroll software, preferably Ceridian products.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal payroll rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, PC literate (internet, excel, word and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team on collaborative projects.
  • Ability to remain calm and solutions - oriented in high - stress situations.
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and anticipate challenges before they occur.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and comfortably with ambiguity.
Nice to Haves
  • 4 - 6 years of experience processing payroll for companies operating in multiple states with   over 500 employees.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources or related field.
  • Desire to grow as a payroll professional within the Human Resources function.
  • FPC or CPP Certification via American Payroll Association.
  • Candidate for FPC or CPP Certification via American Payroll Association.
  • Previous experience using Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Experience processing payroll for public or governmental entities with pension and/or  Chapter 78.
  • Experience interacting with and/or managing internal and external auditors on payroll and   human resources cycle testing.
