In this role, the Manager of Annual Giving and Engagement will:
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit annual giving prospects (approximately 200 prospects) to create and grow a pipeline of donors in the $500 to $5,000 range.
  • Build strong relationships with portfolio and lead stewardship efforts within your portfolio to increase giving to KIPP NJ, with an emphasis on personal face-to-face meetings with contacts in Newark (80%) and Camden (20%).
  • Develop an annual plan/recurring giving program to achieve revenue goals for gifts below $5,000.
  • Engage with on-going and one-time volunteers to increase interest in KIPP and possible philanthropic opportunities.

Here's what you'll be doing:
Individual Giving and Prospect Management:
  • Drive the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of approximately 200 donors.
  • Provide an exceptional donor experience that enhances giving and attracts new investors in KIPP's mission through regular engagement and a 7-Star experience. Execute on timely post-meeting follow up and tracking of activities in Raiser's Edge.
  • Secure $300,000 in individual donor giving from your portfolio toward the organization's annual fundraising goals; with a focus on increasing giving from donors below $5,000.
  • Maximize attendance at the annual fundraising event from portfolio; support Deputy Director on execution of annual fundraising event.
Annual Appeals and Recurring Giving:
  • Determine a calendar of annual appeals to reach donors who give below $5,000 annually in each region.
  • Execute said calendar (via direct mail, electronic mail, phone solicitations) with defined messaging and segmentation strategies for each.
  • Monitor progress of annual giving fundraising program and prepare analysis and reports to development team with outcomes.
  • Manage the extraction of data to support solicitations, leveraging segments to maximize outcomes (lapsed, renewed, new donors).
  • Work with Development Operations Associate to ensure appropriate stewardship efforts and engagements for Annual donors.
Volunteer Engagement:
  • Qualify and cultivate individual volunteers and tutors through face-to-face time and relationship building; with the opportunity to build new cohorts of recurring volunteer groups.
  • Work with the Development Operations Associate to ensure an inspiring volunteer engagement experience with KIPP New Jersey (one-time and recurring).

Relationship Development:
  • Develop deep relationships with champions, donors, and volunteers that results in increased giving and networking.
  • Demonstrate a hunger to learn, grow, support, and add great value. Regularly seek to understand the details of our model and strategic growth plan to convey externally.
  • Keep detailed records in Raiser's Edge on donor meetings and interactions to ensure strong tracking of relationships, good team communication, and follow up.
Fundraising:
  • Demonstrate a growing ability to conduct research, prospect, and to drive ongoing development efforts.
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and creativity that leads to the integration of new ideas and, ultimately, the strengthening of new funding streams for KIPP NJ.
  • Demonstrate ability to close the deal and successfully make asks that advance KIPP NJ's mission.
Communication:
  • Serve as an ambassador of KIPP NJ. Deliver compelling written and oral communications to promote the organization's mission. Convey complex ideas through brief, simple, yet striking materials.
  • Articulate the case for support with effectiveness; communicate the priorities, goals and mission of the organization and solicit feedback for improved donor relationships.
  • Quickly establish credibility when promoting KIPP NJ to external audiences. Demonstrate a high degree of comfort and poise with donors and Board members.
Strategic Thinking:
  • Demonstrate an ability to devise innovative fundraising plans, create action steps, and mobilize many stakeholders to achieve goals.
  • Build sustainable plans to maximize giving, meet goals and significantly grow funding.
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Fundraising experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional writing skills and presentation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Superhero organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive and Outlook
  • Experience with project and people management; comfort in directing others toward a common goal or outcome
  • Zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor (Because we take our work seriously, but not ourselves.)
  • Experience with CRM or Fundraising Software is a must;  Raiser's Edge is a plus
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for events
  • Travel to Camden (10% to 20%)
