The Graduates Ready to Attain Success in Postsecondary (GRASP) Program Grant aims to support selected Georgia high schools as they work to increase student success in achieving high school graduation, completing postsecondary programs, and productively participating in the workforce.
Operated by GOSA, the GRASP grants provide selected high schools with funding for one additional counselor to support a specific and limited caseload of at-risk students in achieving academic, personal/social, and career development success
The Counselor provides counseling services to students, teachers, parents, and others regarding personal, academic, and career issues. The counselor also ensures guidance and counseling programs are implemented and that students and community members are effectively supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Counsels individuals and groups by listening, identifying problems, and discussing solutions.
  • Provides advice on course selection, personal issues, post secondary selections, and career needs.
  • Develops various community programs, including drug free school programs and career activities.
  • Assists with standardized testing and student placement.
  • Consults with staff and parents about problems, concerns, and any other issues involving students.
  • Coordinates with school staff to develop plans for evaluating and improving schools.
  • Administers and/or supports the state and local standardized testing processes and policies.
  • Conducts classroom guidance activities and evaluates the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Supervised by the principal and /or assistant principal
  • Focus her/his attention on the students on her caseload
  • Collaborate with Administration/Counselors to select caseload. GRASP Specialist will assist GRASP Counselor with final selection (GRASP caseload is based on student data: attendance, academics, discipline, and school information about challenging personal or family issues .)
  • Scheduling, rescheduling and transcript analyses, for all students on the caseload
  • Attend IEP meetings, any team meetings for their students as well as disciplinary conferences and hearings for their students
  • Develop strong relationships with the caseload students, their families, teachers, and other support personnel
  • Guide students with developing student goals and specific plans to meet student goals
  • Assist teachers/staff with developing individual plans for each student
  • Monitor students' progress towards goals, graduation and post-secondary possibilities. Provide ongoing feedback to all stakeholders
  • Provide innovative strategies to move students towards goals and success
  • The administration will need to allow GRASP Counselor a flexible schedule, to use as needed for student success
  • Consistent communication with parents through phone and school conferences and home visits (if allowed by the district)
  • Facilitate the necessary connection to monitor and encourage if student transfers
  • Develop and enhance existing Community partnerships and support for caseload success
  • Collaborate with students and teachers to problem solve classroom issues and devise success plans
  • Report data daily, weekly and generate midyear and summary report
  • Log intervention strategies in electronic format for students
  • Attend GRASP training
  • Communicate to principal and others the log and data information that will facilitate school improvement
  • Be available in the hallways, classroom areas and cafeteria will be obvious as they check on students' attendance in specific classes or engage with students in frequent brief interactions.
  • Update student progress frequently (at least weekly) and supports the school to reinforce required attendance and grade posting policies
  • Conducts career exploration and field trips to colleges and job programs
  • Plan experiences that will build student confidence and belief in their own potential
  • Provide detailed deep services to caseload students instead of traditional duties such as planning Red Ribbon week, classroom guidance, serving as school test coordinator
  • Attend counseling departmental meetings and participate on administrative teams
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Requirements: CERTIFICATION:
S5- S7 Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification in School Counseling

EDUCATION:
Master's degree is required

EXPERIENCE:
2-3 years of related experience preferred



Compensation:
Salary Grade: IS4-IS6
Salary Range: $50, 976 to 88, 092 (Individuals holding a T/L 7 certificate will receive a $2, 000 supplement above the T6)
Work Days: 211 days

FLSA Status: Exempt
