DESCRIPTION:
Intermediate District 287 is seeking qualified candidates for an Interpreter position for our Itinerant department. This class is accountable for facilitating communication between deaf/hard of hearing students and others by interpreting in educational settings. Participates as a member of the educational team serving these students.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Experience as an interpreter in a variety of situations involving the deaf and hearing impaired.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify as a sign language interpreter/transiliterator, a person shall have completed a training program affiliated with a state accredited educational institution and hold:
1. An interpreter and/or transliterator certificate awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID);
or
2. A general level proficiency certificate at level 3 awarded by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD);
or
3. Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) at the 4.0 level.
