Lake Forest Community High School is seeking a Jazz Band Director.

Description: The director supervises student during regular rehearsals and organizes events throughout the year in order to meet the needs of the band. The director creates, facilitates, and manages students through rehearsals, meetings, performances, activities or fundraisers.

Responsibilities:

• Holds Jazz Band rehearsals on a regular basisRecruits and auditions students for a Jazz Band with traditional big band instrumentation plus optional color instrumentsSelects and/or arranges appropriate music for performancesPlans and leads rehearsals (2 full ensemble rehearsals/week with additional sectionals encouraged)Plans accordingly and facilitates student planning for additional Jazz Band meetings, performances, activities, or fundraisersPlans Jazz Festival Concert with Middle School Directors and LFHS Theater ManagerWorks with LFHS faculty and Applause to plan Spaghetti Dinner and other potential school performancesPlans at least one additional performance or clinic at a local high school jazz festival or with a guest artist/groupMaintains a variety of documents including attendance records for Band rehearsals, meetings, and events, club's activity account budget, and field trip formsRequests room space in advance for regular rehearsals and events as well as makes travel arrangements in advance when necessaryGenerates revenue via fundraisers to support club expenses, if applicableFollows fundraising proceduresOversee the correct and responsible use of club fundsPromotes and publicizes club involvement via posters, flyers, or announcementsMaintains positive relationships with students, supports our diverse populations, and interacts with students and adults in a respectful mannerCommunicates and hold students accountable to a standard of expected behaviorEstablishes Jazz Band long range and short-term goalsProvides supervision and safety of students, materials, equipment and facilitiesPerforms other duties as assigned by administration

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent - preferredAbility to:
  • Understand and follow basic oral and written instructionsEnforce school regulations and policies in a professional mannerDeal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional mannerAddress concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential mannerMaintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupilsCommunicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner
