About the position

Whittle School & Studios seeks qualified subject-specific and general substitute teachers across all divisions - Early Learning Center, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School -- for the 2020-2021 school year at our Washington, DC campus. Substitute teachers may be assigned a lead or supporting role in a classroom, depending on grade level, discipline and student needs. The role of the substitute teacher requires flexibility, collaboration and cooperation. We seek to hire qualified individuals with a deep respect for children and strong classroom management skills. Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor's degree and have relevant experience working with children. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience, subject matter expertise, teacher training, and to those with a master's degree. Substitute teacher hours vary, but will generally be between the hours of 8 AM to 3:15 PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotion of student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher
  • Oversight of students in a variety of settings, including classroom teaching, dining hall, dismissal, and other duties as reasonably assigned
  • Classroom management

  • Bachelor's degree in education or pertinent subject area

  • Ability to provide coverage for both planned and short-notice absences of our regular instructors
  • CPR/First Aid a plus
