Community School Initiative Manager

Position Overview

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child -- in every school and in every neighborhood -- has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. The Community School Initiative (CSI) Manager reports to the Executive Director of Student Support and Engagement within the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS).

CSI includes a portfolio of over 200 district managed and community based partner managed Community School and 20 Sustainable Community Schools (SCS). The collective budget for all the Community Schools Initiative is over 16 million dollars. The Manager provides support and guidance to these CPS schools and manages a team of individuals regarding program development and implementation, professional development activities and evaluation. The CSI Manager corresponds regularly with local, federal and state agencies to ensure program compliance with state, and federal law and alignment with district goals. The CSI Manager is also responsible for collaborating with CPS departments, city agencies, and community based organizations to ensure that Community School drive student achievement and parent engagement. Finally, the CSI Manager oversees the evaluation of Community Schools to determine program impact and student achievement outcomes and to ensure program quality.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Develop and maintain external partnerships: that include, but are not limited to, public, private and community based organizations. Meet with potential donors who express an interest in financially supporting community schools.

  • Create and execute vision and strategic plan for Community Schools: to help align programs with the regular school day and support the district's goals.

  • Provide direction for 21 st CCLC professional development activities and program evaluation.

  • Personnel Management: Manage and assess the performance of Project Managers, Program Coordinators, External Partnership Coach and Data Analyst.

  • New Community School Development: Meet with CPS schools and staff who express interest in community schools concept and partnering on a 21 st CCLC or other grant applications.

  • Support 21 st CCLC Community Schools: Meet with CPS schools and staff who express interest in community schools concept and partnering on a 21 st CCLC grant applications.

  • Support Sustainable Community Schools: Manage the implementation of the Sustainable Community School which is a collaborative effort with the Chicago Teacher's Union

  • Planning and Implementation Support: Support schools with implementing the Community School Model with fidelity, manage the departmental and school budgets and monitor grant execution.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree required

  • 7-10 years work experience in schools/education/community based organizations

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Grant writing, supervisory experience, program management

  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and school- community partnerships



Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district
