Position Overview

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child -- in every school and in every neighborhood -- has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. The Sustainable Community School Manager is responsible for implementing the Sustainable Community School Initiative (SCS), a joint partnership between CPS and the Chicago Teachers Union. The SCS Manager reports to the Manager, Community Schools Initiative (CSI) in the Office of College and Career Success who will work in a shared leadership capacity with the Chicago Teachers Union Sustainable Community Schools Representative.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure collaborative partnership between CPS and CTU with a commitment to shared leadership

  • Manage purchasing and contracting processes for community partner agencies

  • Coordinate logistics of school selection and rollout

  • Facilitate the logistics, work, and deliverables of SCS Task Force, consisting of CPS and CTU members

  • Manage the SCS program budget and report budget expenditures to SCS Taskforce

  • Manage initiative at the cohort level, ensuring initiative principles drive planning and implementation

  • Supervise Program Coordinators to ensure alignment

  • Drive evaluation and assessment of SCS initiative

  • Support school leadership with program implementation

  • Support implementation of Cohort Professional Learning Community

  • Assist CSI staff with other responsibilities related to office operations and other duties as assigned



Qualifications

Skills & Abilities

  • Project planning capabilities, including the ability to establish long-term vision and goals, and the ability to align and manage activities toward execution of identified goals.

  • Self-starter with ability to conduct multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.

  • Strong service and support orientation towards schools and school communities.

  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated project management experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences. Exceptional verbal, written, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision outside of formalized, central office setting.

  • Detail-oriented, flexible, dedicated and responsible individual.

  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and school-community partnerships.

  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize information quickly and strategically.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word.



Type of Education Required :

  • B.A. required; Masters preferred.



Type of Experience and Number of Years:

  • Minimum of eight to ten years relevant work experience.

  • A minimum of five years of successful and relevant experience managing programs and analyzing program data.

  • Three to five years of experience in urban education or related field preferred.



Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district
