The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school, college, and made career-ready. The District Assessment System Architect for the Curriculum Equity Initiative (CEI) will coordinate the varied, complex projects, policies, and activities that comprise the design, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the curriculum-aligned district assessment system.

The District Assessment System Architect will report to CPS' Director of Student Assessment.

The Curriculum Equity Initiative is a formal structure designed to support the effective and efficient identification, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of the district's curricular options. The implementation effort for the UCS has been organized as a portfolio of projects, organized across four primary categories:

  1. Curriculum
  2. Assessment Instruction Infrastructure


The District Assessment System Architect will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the curriculum-aligned assessment system in the Curriculum Equity Initiative. The District Assessment System Architect will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

    Design and implement quality assurance processes for the creation, testing, and validation of assessment content, including informing curriculum providers' item development plans, test blueprints, test designs, and other supporting documents/processes. This includes the application of statistical requirements in the development of operational test forms and the coordination of pilot testing, field testing, and content reviews. Provide professional learning to assessment content writers and reviewers to develop and refine items based on standards, cognitive complexity, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, accessibility considerations, and other item development best practices Lead ongoing policy development to support the effective design, implementation, and use of the assessments in the Curriculum Equity Initiative Review curriculum-aligned assessment content using established rubrics Coordinate with the Assessment System Implementation Manager and the Assessment for Learning Manager to ensure continued alignment between the assessment infrastructure, content, and use in the Curriculum Equity Initiative Serve on and provide assessment expertise in cross-functional Curriculum Equity Initiative working groups Identify, Initiate and manage assessment vendor services to contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the district assessment system. Initiate and manage the district assessment system's technical advisory committee, including the development of achievement-level descriptors and any standard setting Coordinate with the Enterprise Data Strategy team and Department of School Quality Measurement and Research on the design and implementation of the evaluation plan for the district assessment system Ongoing communication of district assessment system information to key stakeholders
    Performs related duties as required


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the District Assessment System Architect must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

    Bachelor's Degree required Master's Degree in educational assessment, measurement, or evaluation preferred


Type of Experience and Number of Years :

    Demonstrated experience in educational assessment, measurement, or evaluation Minimum of 5 years Experience in large, urban K-12 school district preferred

    CPS employees are required to be residents of the City of Chicago within six months of beginning employment, and are required to maintain Chicago residency throughout employment.
