POSITION: GED, HSD/Credit Recovery, Instructor

LOCATION: Oakland Adult & Career Education Office, 2607 Myrtle St. Oakland

WORK PERIOD: 22-30 hours/week: TBA

DESCRIPTION:

The instructor will monitor and assess students work in the Credit Recovery / High School Diploma program and prepare students to pass the GED examination through distance learning and classroom instruction. The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

To enroll students and create education plans in the High School Diploma/ Credit recovery program

Provide students with online and classroom instruction for recovering high school credits and developing academic skills for passing the four sections of the GED examination: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies; in alignment with A-G requirements and Common Core State Standards.

Monitor individual student online work, progress in the credit recovery program and give individual student feedback

Conduct weekly individual student check-ins; provide individual face-to-face instruction as needed

Monitor student progress in accordance to the California Department of Educations' (CDE) Model Standards for Adult Education and ABE Content Standards.

Provide quality assurance and guidance in the use of CDE approved standardized assessments; administer the Official GED Practice Tests and the state approved assessments for recovering high school credits.

Motivate and support students in a culturally responsive manner.

Participate in a weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) with GED colleagues to discuss student learning, curriculum and program development.

Complete and submit all required data and accountability documentation in a timely manner.

Provide weekly face-to-face new student orientations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Possess a valid non-emergency California Teaching credential authorizing instruction in GED subjects and High school A-G requirements.

Have at least 3 years' teaching experience with all GED subject areas in a GED classroom setting, including student skills assessment and differentiated instruction.

Possess strength and experience in instructional technology.

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience in online distance learning and independent study preferred

Experience working with online credit recovery platforms ie. Fuel Ed, Apex
