Director of Director of Data, Development, and School Culture (Tier D)

The Curley K-8 School is seeking a Director of Data, Development, and School Culture. At the Curley K-8 School we care about ourselves, each other and our community. Through teamwork, data usage, engaging teaching practices, and community supports our students will achieve academic and social success. This is a unique position created to facilitate data inquiry cycles. In supporting the implementation of data inquiry cycles, the Director of Data, Development, and School Culture will play a key role in improving the achievement of urban children, ensuring that all students have access to excellent, experienced, reflective teachers who use data to drive their instruction.

Reports to: Principal

Responsibilities:

Professional Development and Data Inquiry
  1. In common planning meetings and other professional development time, train and support teacher teams to use data-based inquiry cycle.
  2. Ensure teachers and teacher teams use formative assessment data and student work in redesigning and improving common instructional practices at each grade level and content area.
  3. Support teacher leaders to analyze data and student work with colleagues to plan instruction and curriculum.
  4. Use various forms of data to facilitate teacher collaboration, including looking at data and student work, collaborative peer observation, and lesson/unit planning and mapping, and ensuring effective implementation of curriculum.
  5. Monitor teams' inquiry, ensuring that they document their inquiry in a consistent manner, and can explain and self-assess the quality of their instructional decision-making (e.g., what data they analyzed, what they inferred from it, what actions they took, and what effects resulted).
  6. Monitor and support teachers' implementation of social emotional strategies taught and reviewed in professional development and grade level/content team meetings
  7. Collaborate supports with the Office of Data and Accountability
  8. Be a change agent in an existing community.
Data Development and Management
  1. Together with admin team, coordinate administration and analysis of formative and summative assessments.
  2. Assist principal with development, formatting and presentation of school's formative and summative assessments.
  3. Together with the admin team, ensure that assessment data is used to identify students in need of additional support (tiered intervention) in academic areas.
School Culture and Student Support
  1. Coordinate with school guidance counselor to establish mentoring program for boys of color
  2. Facilitate faculty and staff professional development related to school culture, consistent enforcement of student discipline, and social-emotional supports for students;
  3. Support teachers in holding all students to high and consistent expectations, serving as a resource with regards to issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture.
Job Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in related field
  • At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience
Preferred:
  • Experience working with urban populations
  • Experience in leading professional learning sessions, including data-based inquiry cycles
  • Experience in facilitating professional development programming to teachers.
  • Proficient in technology necessary to retrieve, analyze and report data
  • Experience in instructional coaching of teachers
  • Massachusetts Educator's' license in Math 5-8 or Literacy 5-8
Terms: Managerial Tier D, School Based

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.

This position is subject to the City of Boston Residency ordinance.
