The Paraprofessional works in schools with guidance from certified teachers as well as school administrators, while assisting in differentiated instruction that meets students' individualized needs, including at-risk students and students with goals/benchmarks written in their Individual Education Program (IEP) and Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Typical activities for the Paraprofessional include some or all of the following: providing orientation services to new students and their families; working with students individually or in groups, assisting teachers, participating in parent conferences, supporting the needs of disabled students, providing translation services, and performing clerical work.

AS A Paraprofessional Teacher, YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Performs in-take function helping orient newly enrolled students and their families to programs and services;
  • Works with students individually or in groups providing supplemental instruction utilizing specific teaching strategies and an acquired knowledge of learning styles;
  • Assists with lesson preparation and planning, monitors attendance, and helps maintain student files as appropriate;
  • Serves as chief source of information for substitute teachers;
  • Collaborates with the teacher and parents in tracking student progress making sure to share insights gained from working individually with students;
  • Contacts parents and/or targeted student populations via email, phone call or auto-dial for non-academic issues as requested;
  • Assists disabled students; works with non-English speaking learners as appropriate.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must live in Michigan and possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent AND
  • Sixty (60) credit hours at an institution of higher education OR Associates Degree
  • Must have experience working with children, preferably special education students
  • Pass a formal State or local academic assessment verifying mastery of rigorous quality standards

    Certificates and Licenses: None required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to promote and facilitate a positive school environment by making students accountable in following all school and classroom rules and policies
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • High degree of reliability
  • Ability to pass background check requirements
