QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree or High School diploma/GED and NCLB. Must be willing to participate in ongoing professional development.

Bilingual Required.

Keyboarding and computer knowledge preferred.

Ability to operate standard office equipment.

At least 1 year of experience working with English language learners.

Ability to understand and translate academic skills being taught.

A high tolerance for frustration and a high degree of patience.

Ability to effectively use written and verbal skills to communicate with teachers, students, supervisors and parents.

Ability to take initiative to creatively solve problems, and to participate and communicate as a member of a team.

Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic demeanor and a high degree of customer service skills and professionalism.

First Aid/CPR certification preferred

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

JOB GOAL:

To work closely with students in a K5- 5 Dual Language Immersion Program to provide them with consistent academic and linguistic support needed (in both English and Spanish) for them to gain full benefits from the district's academic programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with one-to-one and small group instruction of students (K5 through 5th grade) as assigned and directed by teacher.

Assist with small and large group translation of directions.

Assist in the preparation of instructional materials as directed.

Assist with the preparation of verbal and written notices to parents.

Provide clerical assistance for the teacher.

Prepare and supply audio-visual equipment as designated by the teacher.

Inventory, distribute and collect educational materials from supply areas as requested.

Assist in preparing bulletin boards and showcase.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist in monitoring of lavatories, lunchroom, transportation and playground.

Make copies for teachers.

School year

EVALUATION:

For new employees, evaluations will be performed according to the current collective bargaining agreement.

For transferring employees, evaluations will be done at 30 days.

All regular employees will be evaluated at least yearly.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Demands:

50% standing, 50% walking.

Must be mobile to engage in physical activity with students, bending, stooping, and crouching.

Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs.

Ability to demonstrate professionalism when working with students' families.

Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.
