This position is a temporary vacancy covering for a paraprofessional on leave. The position is expected to end in late October 2019 when the current paraprofessional returns to work. At that time, the covering paraprofessional will be terminated from the position

The Greenwood school is a K-8 school that has the following programs:
- Dual Language Spanish-English K1-7th Grade
- Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) for students with Emotional Impairments 2nd-8th grade
- Classrooms for Specific Learning Disabilities (LD) 5-8th grade
Music, Makerspace, and Art for all students
- STEAM and Ethnic Studies Project Based Learning Curriculum for the whole school
- Focus on Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Practices throughout
- Restorative Justice and Socio-Emotional Learning focus K1-8th Grade

Job Title: Security Paraprofessional

Reports to: Principal/Headmaster

General Description and Goals:
Security Paraprofessional will assist teachers in providing an innovative, high quality education program designed to meet the needs of the children in the Boston Public Schools. Security Paraprofessional will work with school staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating the students of the Boston Public Schools.

Responsibilities:
The primary responsible of the Security Paraprofessional is to maintain the safety and security of school hallways, classrooms, common areas and school grounds.
  1. Assist in the arrival and dismissal of students.
  2. Manage PM detention hall.
  3. Monitor the front door and visitor pass program.
  4. Unlock lavatories and maintain a log of student use.
  5. Perform other related duties as requested by the Headmaster.

Qualifications:

Required:
  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment ( http://www.ets.org/parapro/ ) or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants ( http://www.act.org/workkeys/profcert/index.html ).
  3. Minimum of two years experience working with young children
  4. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Preferred:
  1. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  2. Experience working with adolescents.
  3. Experience working in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic setting.
  4. BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
