    Position Summary

    Battle Creek Public Schools has an opportunity for a innovative leader to lead its exciting new STEM Innovation Center focused on middle school students. Students will expereince hands-on project based learning to help them develop engineering mindsets, design thinking and research skills. Students will drive their own learning which will be facilitated by a team of dynamic teachers. Students will use their hands and minds to explore, generate curiosity and develop design thinking. These students will take machines apart and learn how they work through reverse engineering. They will conduct field research and participate in project-based lessons that help them develop the innovative thinking they'll need to become adept in analytical and scientific processes.

    The Coordinator will provide direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the STEM school to include STEM programming, effective instructional practices, communication and operational efficiencies of the school in collaboration with Grand Valley State University.


    Essential Duties
    • Provides direction and leadership in the design, development and implementation of the STEM Middle School
    • Oversees the development and enhancement of the STEM curriculum and programming
    • Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that supports high levels of instruction and student engagement through the use of research-based, data driven best practices, effective classroom consultation, and program evaluation
    • Monitors school system data to determine trends and in turn develops and implements the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding student achievement goals
    • Leads a process for the evaluation, selection and acquisition of instructional materials, supplies, equipment and resources to support the STEM curriculum
    • Assists in the development of a proposed annual budget to operate the school
    • Mitigates barriers and facilitates access to underserved student populations
    • Manages and coordinates professional development for the school"s teachers
    • Provides narrative and statistical reports regarding the STEM school and provides support to teachers in data driven decisions to continuously improve student achievement
    • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Must have strong undergraduate aptitude in Mathematics or Science
    • Demonstrated ability to organize programs, personnel, and activities required for productive learning in the school
    • Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate and provide leadership which results in a healthy and productive school environment
    • Ability to engage in critical thinking in rendering solutions to various issues
    • Ability to manage financial, material and human resources effectively
    • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate program goals and initiatives
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
    • Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information
    • Must be skilled in collaborative leadership of individuals and groups
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

    Job Qualifications

    MS Science Certification or ability to obtain certification

    Experience in Leadership Roles

    Administrative Certification strongly desired

    Organizational Relationship

    This position reports to the Director of Secondary Education
