Summary: The Pre-Kindergarten Literacy Facilitator works with the school administrator, Director of Pre-Kindergarten Programs, and NC Pre-K Assistant Director to provide direct support and leadership to Pre-Kindergarten teachers related to state standards in early childhood instruction. The position is a resource for Pre-Kindergarten teachers in the implementation of the Pre-Kindergarten curriculum and district early literacy initiatives.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Conducts regular site visits in order to observe interactions and lessons with students, provide specific feedback and determine next steps in teaching strategies.
  • Provides on-site embedded professional development through side-by-side coaching techniques, modeling lessons, video-taping and using targeted teacher observations to enhance best practices in instructional presentation.
  • Develops and implements professional development related to evidence based practices and teacher needs in the Pre-Kindergarten setting.
  • Analyzes assessment data and collaborates with teachers and other support staff to make instructional recommendations.
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with families, school personnel and community.
  • Works collaboratively with other literacy coaches to develop strategies for teaching expected outcomes in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom.
  • Provides feedback and documentation to school Administrators, Director of Pre-K program, and NC Pre-K Assistant Director.
  • Participate in appropriate professional groups, committees, and meetings.
  • Models lessons using appropriate early literacy strategies and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Offer feedback to Pre-Kindergarten Director and NC Pre-K Assistant Director and keep lines of communication open between school and central office.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

Education and Experience:

Minimum -
  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or Child Development
  • Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in education, including direct experience with young children or experience as a Reading Facilitator

Licensing / Certification Requirements: NC Elementary Education, Birth-K licensure or Pre-K add on required
