- Must hold a valid certification in one of the following:
- Virginia Quality Assessment Screening Level III, or
- Education Interpreter Performance Assessment 3.5 or above, or
- RID Certification.
- Competency in English, ASL and/or cued language.
- Knowledge of RID (Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf) and/or TECUnit Code of Professional Conduct.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is a 1.0 FTE, working 190 days located at the Syphax Education Center in the Special Education Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sign language interpreter for ASL classroom.
- Provide American Sign Language interpretation and/or cued language transliteration in varied environments, i.e.:
- Classrooms, staff meetings, large/formal training meetings, department meetings, IEP meetings, and interactions with supervisors and colleagues.
- Effectively facilitate communication between American Sign Language and/or cued language and English.
- Adhere to RID (Registry of Interpretrs of the Deaf) and/or TECUnit Code of Professional Conduct.
- Knowledge of technical signs and/or vocabulary used in educational environments.
- Dependable, flexible, and organized.
- Collaborative team player with teacher and staff.
- Willingness to participate in interpreter training opportunities.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with simultaneous interpreting between ASL and/or cued language and English.
- Interpreting experience in educational settings.
