  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of proper English usage, and grammar; pertinent academic areas and learning situations; and general needs and behavior of high school students.

    Must possess the skill to understand the needs of high school students and to relate to them in a learning and recreational situation; learn the requirements of students in the specific learning programs to which assigned; analyze situations accurately and adopt and effective course of action; supervise students in a variety of situations; establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files; operate standard office equipment; including typewriter, copy machines, tape records, projects, etc.; maintain calm and patience in stressful situations; understand and carry out oral and written directions; and administer tests as necessary.

    Requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and in Spanish; translate basic documents from English to Spanish, and vice-versa by passing the District's translation test; understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions in an independent manner; adequately perform typing and computer skills as required for clerical duties; establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

    Must be bilingual (must pass the District's bilingual certification test in oral, reading and writing proficiency in Spanish)
    No experience is required, although general clerical experience and work involving the supervision of students is desirable. Completion of twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses. Demonstration of familiarity with a minority culture is required.

    CERTIFICATION OF DISTRICT PROFICIENCY IN THE AREAS OF BASIC READING, WRITING AND MATHEMATICS SKILLS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION TO CONSIDERED. ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MAY BE SUBMITTED IN PLACE OF THE DISTRICT PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE:
    • DIPLOMA FROM A REGIONALLY ACCREDITED CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL AFTER JANUARY 1, 1981
    (G.E.D. does not fulfill the proficiency requirement)
    • PROOF OF SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE CBEST TEST
    • POSSESSION OF A VALID CALIFORNIA TEACHING CREDENTIAL
    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
    DUTIES OF POSITION: Under direct to general supervision to assist teacher(s) in the instruction, supervision, and training of individuals or groups of students by performing a variety of instructional support and student care activities and to perform a variety of related duties to provide an effective learning environment. This job class provides a variety of responsible support services and requires a high degree of positive contact with students and certificated staff.

    The successful candidate will assist the school site ESL coordinator in all aspects of the program for Limited English Proficient students. Will include responsibility for the identification, primary language testing, reclassification testing, and associated records maintenance for LEP students. This job classification requires a high degree of contact with Spanish-speaking parents of LEP students, both orally and in writing. Will also include responsibilities for interpreting and translation services for school site administrators, registrar, attendance personnel, and counselors in matters, which directly affect LEP students.
    Starting Salary: $2,297.21 (monthly)
