The Music Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the instruction of their component, which is part of an after-school arts program for our high school students. The ideal candidate will possessed the skills to engage our middle & high school students to develop the skills of self expression through the arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead small groups of students in acquisition of performance skills specific to their instrument
  • Guide students in rehearsal of appropriate musical materials - songs, skits, band performances, chamber ensembles, etc
  • Prepare age, and skill appropriate, lesson plans to be reviewed by supervisors before being taught
  • Share a love of music and an enthusiasm that enriches the lives of children
  • Teach weekly program sessions
  • Act as a role model for high-school students
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Conservatory training and/or university-level experience in Music is preferred (college students currently pursuing degree-level work are also encouraged to apply)
  • Must have at least 2 years teaching experience
  • Multiple years of experience in at least one of the following instruments: piano, drums, guitar, brass, and/or woodwind
  • Passion and experience with arts education, particularly involving middle and high-school aged youth
  • Flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm for young people
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to provide consistent and positive instruction
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, available days and evenings
