POSITION SUMMARY:

The Guest Preschool Assistat Teacher assists the teachers in the daily routine of the program. The primary focus includes meal preparations, family-style meal implementation and cleanup, and/or working with children and assisting in the classroom. Specific job responsibilities are identified dependent on the site, current needs of the program, and scheduled hours.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kitchen/Meal/Cleanup
  • Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with USDA, Food Handler's and ECEAP policies and procedures regarding kitchen/meals/cleanup.Reviews food to ensure it meets USDA requirements.Checks the temperature of food to assure it meets standard requirements.Serves food, identifying children's dietary accommodations with information provided by teacher/FSS.Performs a variety of duties in receiving, storing and preparing, serving, transporting, and cleaning-up of meals.As requested by lead teacher, includes children in preparing, serving, eating, and cleanup of meals or nutrition projects in a manner that meets Health and ECEAP program requirements and safety standards.Participates in family-style meal times with children.Sets up kitchen, organizes kitchen routine, and replenishes kitchen supplies by contacting responsible parties.Stores, refrigerates heats, divides food into serving containers, and arranges food in an appealing manner.Sets tables; distributes and collects eating utensils.Washes dishes, pots, serving containers and utensils by hand and/or machine.Cleans tables, chairs, counters, equipment, and floors.Prepares food storage containers to be sent back to Truman kitchen.Completes USDA paperwork.Assists with maintaining emergency food and emergency non-food supplies.Other related job duties as needed and assigned.

Interactions with Children/Classroom
  • Assists teachers with supervision of children.Supervises children 1:1 or in group setting at the direction of a teacher.Participates in the implementation of daily curriculum and routine with children, inside and outside.Interacts positively with children to support their learning and meet their emotional needs.Contributes to the developmentally-appropriate and safe preschool environment.Interacts with children in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.When requested by a teacher, walks children from or to the school bus.Assists teachers with first aid and injury/health forms.Diapers children and assists with toilet training when requested by lead teacher.Assist teachers in setting up and/or cleaning the classroom and activities, including laundry and cleaning toys.Assists in maintaining equipment and storing supplies.Mandated child abuse reporter.Other related job duties as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current and former ECEAP parents receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are equally qualified
Previous food service experience
Previous work in a preschool/early childhood setting
College credits in early childhood education classes

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
Possess and maintain a valid and current Food Handler's permit
Obtain a pediatric CPR and First Aid card within 90 days of hire and maintain card as current during employment
Have reliable transportation
Submit a Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) Health Clearance form from a medical provider
Provide current negative TB test results or negative chest X-ray
Cannot smell of smoke, perfume, or other chemicals
Possess and maintain district-paid Positive Behavior Training Certificated Course

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to stand/walk, stoop, squat, kneel, use hands for fine manipulation, and push/pull. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 20 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 100 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift. The employee must be able to lift and hold children.

The position also requires hand/finger dexterity; hearing; speaking; seeing; tasting; smelling; writing; and keyboarding. The position requires the employee to lift and move equipment, materials, and/or food up to 40 lbs., and push/pull carts with filled food containers, up to 300 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions in a controlled space with artificial lighting and some natural lighting. The employee may be required to go outside for recess. The indoor flooring is both carpeted and linoleum. The employee may go outside for recess. The employee regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by children and must follow universal precautions when caring for hygiene needs. The employee abides by OSHA safety rules/standards and wears required safety equipment, and wears safe shoes with toe and heel covering. This position requires exposure to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals. The employee must adjust to frequent interruptions in their work schedule.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically works Monday through Friday, excluding Wednesday, during preschool hours. Hours may vary.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to ECEAP Coordinator, and ECEAP Lead Teacher and/or designee.
