Reporting to the Executive Director of Continuous Improvement, the Senior Manager of Professional Learning is responsible for facilitating the planning, implementation and monitoring of professional learning opportunities for network leadership, network teams, and principals. In addition to understanding effective research-based professional learning standards and delivery models, the Senior Manager of Professional Learning will select and apply best practices aligned with the district's vision and mission. The goal of this position is to make significant contributions to continuous improvement by designing, delivering and promoting high quality learning that builds professional capacity to support increased student growth, development and student success.

The Senior Manager of Professional Learning will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of a comprehensive assessment and progress monitoring system to both outline the annual cadence of professional learning assessments,

  • Build the learning capacity of network leaders, network teams and principals to champion and implement equitable and consistent academic practices by establishing robust learning opportunities and clear protocols

  • Develop and oversee the delivery of training essential to support the Office of Network Support that results in achievement of student performance goals.

  • Analyzes and uses data to identify professional development needs and to evaluate, improve and report on program effectiveness

  • Keeps abreast of innovative professional development techniques to provide the district with the highest quality of professional development

  • Managing the data and performance management systems used to both monitor the impact of the Office of Network Support and engage network chiefs in real-time coaching conversations centered on professional learning for principals

  • Creates a system that maintains and monitors the recording and reporting of Professional Learning hours and participation

  • Leading the development of professional learning for network leadership, network teams, and principals aligned to ONS' strategic plan, CPS' Vision, and Performance Standards for School Leaders, including scope and sequence of meeting content, facilitation, and evaluation.

  • Develop and implement the necessary administrative processes, supports, and accountability protocols to ensure the seamless delivery of flexible support services from academic and operational departments to networks and schools.



Type of Education Required :

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Leadership or a related field. Master's degree prefered.



Type of Experience and Number of Years :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience developing and facilitating training; preferably experience in pedagogy training

  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience with oversight of instructional design at school and Network levels



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Experience in professional learning development is preferred

  • Strong leadership and team building skills, (e.g. ability to develop high performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success)

  • Advanced knowledge of instructional practices, program administration, data analysis, and school improvement

  • Project planning and strategic planning capabilities, including the ability to establish long-term vision, goals, and the ability to align/manage activities toward goal fulfillment

  • Possess the ability to assist the Chief Schools Officer in articulating a vision, set high standards, and effectively guide leaders to commit to high expectations by setting actionable, measurable goals and see them through to completion

  • Expertise in leadership development and instructional leadership

  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps

  • Builds collaborative relationships with a wide variety of constituent groups, including external partnerships, to ensure the entire system operates in the most effective manner possible to support school and principal needs.



Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
