Qualifications
  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degreeExperience working with middle school student population is preferred
Essential Job Function
  • Oversee the daily operations of the middle school In-School Suspension programFacilitate the delivery of the designed ISS program with the primary goal of assisting students and faculty in the prevention and resolution of student behaviors of concern

Relationship within the School District
  • Work under the direction of the middle school principal and/or the principal's designee

Job Functions
  • Knowledge of district and school policies and procedures. Provide supervision and management of the ISS classroom. ``Orient students to the expectations of the ISS program and hold students accountable for their actions while in ISS.Monitor and assist students with daily ISS assignments as provided by their teachers.Create a schedule for various school personnel to speak with students on topics that will aid and enhance student success.Implement reflection and self-growth activities for students involved in the ISS program.Work with the guidance department, administration and faculty to help students re-enter and assimilate into the classroom setting.Communicate with teachers to request and/or clarify assignments, and facilitate the return of assignments to teachers in a timely manner.Keep statistical records, data, and evaluations on all students assigned to the ISS program.Establish, share and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.Assist administration with the completion of reports, as needed.Possess effective de-escalation and behavior management skills and abilities.
Communication Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret assignments.Ability to write reports, summaries and correspondence consistent with the duties of the position.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators and staff.Ability to interact with students who may be challenging.
Mathematical skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts needed to help students.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and procedures furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables in situations where there is limited standardization.Ability to implement and monitor a behavioral management program designed to enhance students' problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Other Skills
  • Ability to keep, maintain and provide information on the numerous components of the ISS program as required by administration.Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with students, peers and parents while maintaining confidentiality.Ability to order, maintain and oversee all classroom supplies and materials within budgetary guidelines.
