    TITLE: Kitchen Manager - CK

    REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Child Nutrition

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent and the ability to pass the USD 475 math test
    • Experience in large scale cooking and management a plus
    • Successful completion of the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Food
    • Safety Basics class within 6 months of hire date.

    The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Practice good personal hygiene and safety procedures.
    2. Assumes responsibilities for ordering, receiving, storing, handling, preparing and serving of food according to established standards by the Child Nutrition Services and KSDE.
    3. Inspects food deliveries; inspects all food services areas for cleanliness; inspects food preparation; monitors temperatures on freezer, refrigerator and food; inspects machinery and orders maintenance when necessary.
    4. Accurately completes inventory of food and non food supplies. Assure that all supplies are on hand for the day's preparation before needed.
    5. Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the child nutrition operation meet
    established standards developed by the Child Nutrition Services Office and Kansas Department of Health.
    6. Provide supervision and on the job training to assure that all policies, established procedures, and safety requirements are followed.
    7. Maintains accurate child nutrition paperwork, to include food and equipment inventories, food
    production records, food orders. Meets all deadlines for paperwork.
    8. Plans schedules and work assignments. Trains, supervises and evaluates employees according to established procedures.
    9. Supervise transport of food and non food supplies to other serving sites.
    10. Ability to provide quality instruction to satellite servers to assure portion control, safety and sanitation in the satellite schools.
    11. Ability to manage employees in satellite schools.
    12. Manager may be requested to cater banquets at school site, to include preparing, serving and cleaning after the function.
    13. Operates computer to include but not limited to: downloads, food production records, food inventory, end of day and month procedures, and the ability to send and receive e-mail.
    14. Ability to cook, bake and cashier when needed.
    15. Attends all manager meeting and workshops as required.
    16. Encourages staff to attend meetings and workshops or classes
    17. Performs other duties as assigned.
    18. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
    19. Assists in the hiring of new employees across the district.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
    ? Ability to provide leadership which promotes a good work environment and ability to skillfully manage employees and interact with school personnel.
    ? Ability to provide a safe environment for the performance of work. Reports any accidents in the kitchen to the Child Nutrition Coordinator and/or school administrator in a timely manner.
    ?Ability to pre-plan, set priorities, and manage time to meet production timelines.
    ?Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, push food carts, bend, and reach, as well as stand
    for extended periods, 4 hours at a time possibly.
    ?English proficiency to be able to read, understand, adjust recipes, and communicate with employees, school personnel and district staff.
    ?Knowledge and practice of health and safety standards.
    ?Ability to safely operate and clean commercial ovens, mixers, stoves, can openers, dishwashers, and food warmers.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The working environment is in the cafeteria kitchen and dining room that includes exposure
    to noise and vibrations from kitchen equipment and students in the cafeteria, fumes and odors from grease traps, and heat from stoves and ovens and cold from coolers and freezers.

    TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-10 ½ months (TBD)

    SALARY RANGE: Pay will range from $15.00 to $16.00 per hour

    EVALUATION FREQUENCY: Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
