High School Band/ Instrumental Music Job Description

New Haven Public Schools is looking for an INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER/BAND DIRECTOR at HILLHOUSE HIGH SCHOOL.
CT (049) Music Educator preK-12 certification required.

Candidate will be expected to:
  • Develop a concert band and marching bandInstitute other instrumental ensembles and music classes as appropriateWork with community partners including, but not limited to, Southern CT State University Music Department and Yale School of MusicPrepare students to audition for and participate in elite ensembles (CMEA, Yale, Neighborhood Music School, SCSU Marching Band)create lessons and units that align with the National Core Arts Standardswork as part of an interdisciplinary Arts teamcollaborate with district departmental colleagues and participate in all NHPS music initiativesdifferentiate instructionactively contribute to the professional learning community and support efforts to achieve school wide student performance goals

Responsibilities include:
  • teach high school band and music coursespresent Marching Band at athletic games, parades and other community eventsengage all students in rigorous music learning that encompasses higher order, critical musical thinkingready student musicians for immediate success in college ensemblesprepare students for numerous school based and community based performances, predominantly during the school week, but not limited to the school day. They will involve evening and weekend performances.

Hillhouse Marching Band has historically been the most sought after band in CT, receiving several requests to participate in parades in other communities, universities in and out of state, and even gubernatorial events. In 2017, Hillhouse High School Band received a Grammy Foundation Award for outstanding musical accomplishments.
