Director of School Improvement

General Description

Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, provide ongoing support to administrators and teachers at the building level on the use of data to inform of instructional practices to meet the needs of all students and to assist school in disaggregation of student achievement data generated from formative and summative assessments to impact instruction. Application of improvement science theory to include action level research, strategic planning, and technical support s to all schools and Central Office levels is focused on systems improvement.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assures effective implementation of school improvement plans that includes measurable, long-term goals related to student achievement as aligned to the district strategic plan; conducts periodic review of schools' improvement efforts.

  • Coach small groups of teachers and/or instructional facilitators or school leaders in analyzing data and using data to differentiate instruction.
  • Keep abreast of all new development in areas of data analysis and disseminate current information to all teachers and administrators.
  • Provide professional development for teachers and administrators in the areas of data collection and analysis.
  • Facilitate effective meetings of instructional teams (PLCs).
  • Train and support teachers and school leaders in the use of formative assessments to drive improvement.
  • Supervises the work of the Virginia Tiered Systems of Support district team members.
  • Oversees Coordinated Early Intervening Services funding decisions and reporting requirements for district team members.
  • Provides a high level of technical advice and support to schools and staff regarding action research-based practices and assessment analysis during the planning, review and implementation of school improvement phases.
  • Analyzes and communicates standardized test results and assists school improvement teams with the interpretation and use of multiple data in the development and evaluation of school improvement plans.
  • Prepares and updates assessment, demographic and process data for division and school-level analysis.
  • Serves as a liaison between division and VDOE to ensure compliance with state requirements and efficient implementation of VDOE requirements at the division and school level.
  • Monitors the division-wide application of The Standards of Accreditation and submits required compliance documents.
  • Provides professional development to principals and teachers on using assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the school improvement process with principals and makes improvements as needed; revises the School Improvement Planning framework annually as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of data analysis and its use for instructional planning and delivery; of the school improvement planning process and evaluation. Extensive knowledge of computer software and application for data management, interpretation, and presentation. Advanced knowledge of current trends and research-based practices and strategic selection for school improvement planning. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of educational testing and statistical analysis and of federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to CCPS testing and analysis programs. Demonstrated ability to perform complex statistical analyses of large databases; to interpret and facilitate implementation of multiple components of school improvement planning; to manage major projects and report findings; to organize, meet deadlines and analyze complex situations; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to work effectively in a collegial and collaborative manner in accomplishing diverse tasks.

Requirements

Graduate degree in education, psychology, educational administration, research or related field. Postgraduate Professional License with successful leadership experience and broad, strategic program management. Strongly prefer prior School Administration experience.
